DOLPHINS ADVENTURES
Dolphins are frequently encountered around Zanzibar however a few locations on the south west coast offer the most reliable opportunities for seeing them and swimming with them. Local policies are against feeding the dolphins as a result the dolphins are not always willing to play around swimmers. The best times for "close encounters" are during periods of slack water (high or low tide), especially in the morning and if you are the first boat to meet the. Swimming alongside the dolphins is best done wearing snorkelling equipment. The main centres provide snorkelling equipment and

JOZANI  FOREST
Zanzibar's first and only National Park is centered on Jozani Forest, the largest area of mature forest found within Zanzibar, the forest lies in a shallow trough in the fossil coral bed between the mangrove filled bays of Chwaka and Uzi. Seasonal flooding, and a high water table, has given rise to a unique groundwater forest. On the high ground to either side is dry coral rag forest and thicket.
With mangrove forests and saltmarshes to the north of the National park, the area is an extremely rich mosaic of Zanzibar's diverse natural habitats, a Haven for much wildlife, including rare, endemic and endangered species.

MAINLAND SAFARIS
A million wildebeest... each one driven by the same ancient rhythm, fulfilling its instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life: a frenzied three-week bout of territorial conquests and mating; survival of the fittest as 40km (25 mile) long columns plunge through crocodile-infested waters on the annual exodus north; replenishing the species in a brief population explosion that produces more than 8,000 calves daily before the 1,000 km (600 mile) pilgrimage begins again.

STONE TOWN TOURS
may not have a particularly romantic name, but Stone Town is the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar, little changed in the last 200 years. It is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab houses whose original owners vied with each other over the extravagance of their dwellings. This one-upmanship is particularly reflected in the brass-studded, carved, wooden doors - there are more than 500 different examples of this handiwork. You can spend many idle hours and days just wandering through the fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways.

PRISON  ISLAND
From the main Island off the coast of Stone Town and it's a quick 10 minute boat trip from the old town's waterfront. Just negotiate a ride with any of the waiting boats and remember to take an additional US$6, which is the entrance fee on to the island. Take the correct amount.

It's fringed with a lovely white sand beach and a small coral reef, making it ideal for a spot of snorkeling and sunbathing. You can hire masks and fins once you've landed.

Today Prison Island is known for its excellent views of Stone Town and for its giant tortoises imported from Aldabra in the Seychelles in the late 19th century. They stand up to a rather staggeringly one meter high, could feasibly be hundreds of years old, and are frequently seen copulating!
